The Carbon Black Test Equipment is engineered in accordance with ASTM D1603 and ISO 6964 standards, providing a reliable solution for determining carbon black content in thermoplastic materials such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polybutene (PB). The analysis is performed using a high-precision gravimetric method, where the sample undergoes controlled pyrolysis in a nitrogen atmosphere. During this process, the polymer matrix decomposes, leaving behind carbon black and any inorganic residues.
The carbon black content is calculated by measuring the difference in sample weight before and after thermal treatment, ensuring accurate, repeatable, and standards-compliant results. This method is widely used in quality control, material verification, and plastics testing laboratories.
Important: This method is not suitable for materials containing non-volatile pigments or inorganic additives, as these substances may remain as residue and lead to inaccurate carbon black measurements
We offer two systems – for ASTM D1603-20 and ISO 6964-19. The two systems both consists of complete setups for the test.
Tests may be performed for the determination of the carbon black content of thermoplastic materials, such as: polyethylene, polypropylene and polybutene. The carbon black content is determined by means of weight difference.
The Carbon Black systems complies with tthe requirements of the ASTM D1603-20 and ISO 6964-19 standards

Standard test method for carbon black content in olefin plastics.
ISO 4427-1:2007 specifies the general aspects of polyethylene (PE) piping systems (mains and service pipes) intended for the conveyance of water for human consumption, including raw water prior to treatment and water for general purposes. It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods to which it refers.
